These are 2-day, 8-hour training
sessions and will be conducted
concurrently as follows:

- RTM
(Response Technical Manual)
Presented by:
- Frederick
Hasselberg, Reactor Engineer/Response
Coordinator
Office of Nuclear Security
and Incident Response
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission
This 8 hour training
workshop covers the content and
use of the latest version of the
U.S. NRC Response Technical Manual.
This manual contains simple methods
for estimating the possible consequences
of different kinds of radiological
accidents. The resulting estimates
will help officials determine
or confirm where to recommend
protective actions to the public.
Only trained personnel who can
interpret the calculations, tables,
and figures in the manual should
use these methods. Therefore,
the target audience for this training
includes those who are involved
in the technical aspects of response
to nuclear power plant incidents,
specifically those who would utilize
plant data and RASCAL dose assessment
software (RASCAL, etc.) to make
assessments and recommendations.
The class size is limited to 50
individuals, who will be registered
on a first-come first-serve basis.
A waiting list will be maintained
to substitute for cancellations.
You are encouraged to register
as soon as possible. This training
is for conference registrants
only. There is no additional charge
for this training; however, registrants
must indicate on the registration
form their desire to attend this
training.
- RASCAL
(Radiological Assessment System
for Consequence Analysis)
Presented by:
- Dr.
Stephen McGuire
Office of Nuclear Security
and Incident Response
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission
This 8-hour training
workshop covers the latest version
of the RASCAL (Radiological Assessment
System for Consequence Analysis)
dose assessment code. The target
audience includes those who perform
radiological dose calculations
and those who utilize the results
of dose calculations to make protective
action recommendations. Training
will include scenario practice
exercises. Therefore, participants
should bring a laptop computer
with the most current version
of RASCAL (3.0.3) installed. To
get the most out of the exercises,
no more than two participants
may share one laptop.
The class size is limited to 20
individuals, who will be registered
on a first-come first-serve basis.
A waiting list will be maintained
to substitute for cancellations.
You are encouraged to register
as soon as possible. This training
is for conference registrants
only. There is no additional charge
for this training; however, registrants
must indicate on the registration
form their desire to attend this
training.
- Emergency
Preparedness Communications
Sponsored by: Nuclear Energy
Institute (NEI)
Emergency communications
should be an integral part of
your emergency response organization.
Public confidence is based on
the messages and interactions
plant operators have with the
regulators, employees, media and
the public. Recent security and
emergency preparedness events
suggest that we reevaluate the
emergency communications functions.
It is essential to maintain an
accurate and timely flow of information
from the plant to the joint information
center (JIC) and from the JIC
to the public.
The NEI emergency preparedness
communications training course
is designed to share current thinking
on security and emergency preparedness
communications. We'll also cover
emergency public information and
JIC requirements. Focus will be
placed on lessons learned from
communication deficiencies and
ARCAs. The training course will
give participants the opportunity
to compare how your peers are
implementing the various aspects
of their programs, including successes
or difficulties they may be experiencing.
